James J. Eldred House

Quietly Calm

The James J. Eldred House, located in the small town of Eldred, Illinois, is said to be haunted by the Eldred family. James and Emmaline Eldred built their home in the 1820’s. All three of their daughter’s died in the home. Although several generations of Eldred’s lived in the home over the years, it’s said that three daughters are still there.

Once a beautiful home, no doubt, it now is in a perpetual state of renovation that left us to wander through many rooms torn down to the studs. Our visit was a cold and rainy night and our investigation was plagued with sounds of the wind and rain the whole time we were there.

The history of the home also has ties to the Native American tribes that lived in the area. Upon evidence review, Nick did capture an EVP that had a strong Native American sound to it. He and Angie did some digging around on the internet for a few days. They were able to find a Native American greeting that sounded almost identical to the word they captured on their recorder.

As a new group we used this location as a place to develop our investigating style and experiment with equipment. We had a few personal experiences but unfortunately we left with little evidence captured, as can so often be the case.
